Did you know that Health Information Technology is one of the fastest growing careers in the country? With an increased demand for Health Information Technology jobs, you may also be surprised to know that the supply of HIT talent does not meet the growing demand. This is a serious issue for hospitals and the health systems we support, as they look to ensure the security of patient data and adhere to strict privacy regulations.
From the initial conversations about availability to the final preparations for onboarding, here are a few tips for a smooth hiring process!
Tip #1- Emails
When you send an email regarding your availability, always attach your updated resume. This ensures we have the most up-to-date information regarding your recent projects.
Tip #2- Resume
Your resume is your most important asset! Craft it wisely. It should always include your name, contact information (phone and email address), city, and state. Some projects are seeking local talent and if you don’t include your city and state, you may miss out on the opportunity.
Keep job tiles as consistent as possible. Make certain the dates (include month/year) are correct. Your experience should be detailed to list specific systems, modules, and versions you supported. Additionally, always highlight any certifications or credentials you have earned. Most importantly, always check for spelling errors before sending!

Tip #3- Interviews
Be prepared! Recruiters will contact you and screen you for the engagement. You’ll be asked if you have time for the interview before beginning. If you are not available, be upfront and let us know. We will ask for a few time options convenient to your schedule and will reach out. This is your time to shine!

Tip #4- Offer Letters
If you ultimately receive an offer letter, please sign it in a timely fashion. Today, thanks to technology, offer letters get sent electronically, for ease of signatures; however, they can end up in your spam/junk folders. Those folders should be checked regularly, as to not delay signing, which propels the rest of the onboarding process!
Tip #5- Onboarding
This is likely not your first time to complete onboarding and compliance. Get it done ASAP! The more efficient you are in this step, the faster you will receive the project details: logistics, schedule, orientation, training, and first day information. If your onboarding is not complete, you are in limbo and so are we, so it’s a WIN-WIN to get through it as fast as you can!
These are your SUCCESS TIPS for future projects. Follow these and you will enjoy a stress-free hiring process!
