On October 29, 2020, the FBI issued a warning to US hospital systems and healthcare providers of an imminent ransomware attack in the coming months (link to article). With this, it is no longer a matter of ‘what if’, but ‘when’ your organization is impacted by hackers and their malicious intent.
Divurgent’s DNA is healthcare, and we are increasingly focused on how to proactively help our client partners prepare for these events. My team and I have come up with the following three things to do immediately to help protect your infrastructure:
- Look at the tools you own and implement them.
a. Microsoft has included many advanced security features as part of its standard licensing. If you have E5 licenses as part of your EA – you have the tools in your environment to help prevent ransomware attacks. - Evaluate your security posture
a. Re-visit all security aspects in your environment. What may have been implemented as recently as six months ago, may need review and remediation? - Educate your end-users – all of them!
a. Re-educate your team members on what an attack may look like, provide the support to them to immediately report their suspicion of an attempt to access your systems.
The security and health of your organization remain top of mind to all of here; as I’m sure it does for you. We are here to help and will do our best to help you achieve the most comprehensive security program and posture for your organization.
